GLITTER CAMP is Back!

Glitter Camp applications are closed for 2023. Keep an eye out for our sign-ups for 2024!

Glitter Camp is our annual youth-led camp for LGBTQA2S+ youth ages 12-21 and Stonewall staff, volunteers, and Board members.

Since 2010, we’ve gone on an annual excursion for three or four days  to a comfortable camp (heated cabins!) to plan and re-vision Stonewall Youth programs, bond, share, and participate in awesome workshops. We treat each other with respect and conspire together about the social justice work we want to do in our community

Workshops are led by youth participants and staff.  Sample topics and themes: analyzing gender, youth empowerment, anti-racism, anti-oppression, community building, body images, and much more.

Below is an excerpt from our 2018 Glitter Camp Head Counselor and Planner, Jax:

“I had the privilege to plan last years Glitter Camp with assistance by my wonderful coDirectors and participants at Stonewall Youth. Stonewall works to put power and opportunity into the hands of youth and I felt honored that I was given the chance to organize such an important annual event.

Glitter Camp serves as a time for everyone in our organization, from youth participants to board members, to come together and envision a better future for ourselves, our community, and Stonewall Youth. We balance the heavy-lifting work like unpacking institutional and internalized oppression with relaxation, silliness, and laughter.

There is nothing mundane about a day at Glitter Camp. A typical day includes cooking up fabulous meals together (and sharing the cleaning duties!), doing silly energizer activities, participating one workshop about community organizing and another about healthy relationships, learning how to screen print, petting farm animals, boating, and performing at an open mic.

One of the favorite activities we did was called “CABIN FEVER” each cabin chose a name, leader, mascot, handshake, and presented at the open mic. Our wonderful cabins were dubbed “Cabin Saucy Salamanders” (ages 12-14), “Cabin Cryptid Crew” (ages 15-18), “Cabin Dragon Court” (ages 19-21), and “Cabin Froot Snax” (staff cabin).

There is nothing like the magic of queer and trans people of all ages gathering in the woods overlooking the beach to build community with each other in a safe and respectful way!”

In 2018, Youth designed and screenprinted t-shirts, and were also given beads to put on a necklace depending on what they did, such as “I made a new friend” or “attended two or more workshops.” There were also “shout out” beads, only receivable from someone saying what they appreciated about you. ;-)
