Tales of the City: Still good after all these years
Today, as part of our 30 days of pride fundraiser, on of our youth staff Lilli provides a queer media recommendation!
Queer Media Recommendation: Tales of the City is a series of dramedy novels written by Armistead Maupin which started in 1978, and ran through 2014. It focuses queer characters living under the same roof in San Fransisco. It’s received a number of TV adaptations, the most recent of which is available on Netflix. It features one of the most positive depictions of a trans character I’ve seen, especially considering when it started. It’s heartwarming, hilarious, and provides a welcome snapshot of the eras each of the novels were written in. Whenever I pick up one of these books, I feel better by the time I put it down. This series has become a regular part of my self-care routine, and I highly recommend checking it out.
