Organization Description: Stonewall Youth is an organization of youth, activists, and allies that empowers lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer, questioning, intersex, and asexual (LGBTQQIA) youth to speak for themselves, educate their communities, and support each other. The Speakers’ Bureau is a 5 -person, youth-driven activist and outreach collective that serves as the public education arm of Stonewall Youth. Members present information on LGBTQQIA issues to schools, agencies, organizations, and the community. Speakers’ Bureau uses an intersectional analysis and members of the collective have the opportunity to facilitate trainings on a variety of topics (i.e. anti-oppression 101, trans history, community building etc). The Speaker’s Bureau also provides opportunities for the development of leadership, verbal communication, activism, and organizational skills. |
Position Overview:
- Attend Speakers’ Bureau meetings and participate fully in the Collective.
- Attend and facilitate community workshops.
- Work with other Speakers’ Bureau Collective members to create workshops.
- Create opportunities for other youth at Stonewall to plug in to workshops, panels, and community events.
- Organize and implement Stonewall Activism Saturday School.
- Participate in outreach/tabling opportunities.
- Represent Stonewall Youth in community events.
- Attend minimum of 2 board meetings a year.
- Regularly attend Stonewall Youth staff meetings.

Required Skills and Abilities (successful candidate must be able to demonstrate in order to be considered for this position)
- Age 21 and under.
- Willingness to learn about social justice and facilitation techniques.
- Willingness to work cooperatively within a group of youth organizers.
- Clear communication skills
- Sense of humor
- Openness to being in new situations.
Skills:
- Familiarity with computers.
- Communicate complex and sensitive information, in written and verbal form, without jeopardizing confidentiality.
- Confidence in presenting information to groups in a clear and concise manner.
- Willingness to collaborate with other Speakers’ Bureau members.
- A willingness to learn new information and develop new knowledge, skills and abilities.
Abilities:
- Maintain confidentiality with personal and private information.
- Provide own transportation to and from meetings and events.
- Attend all required meetings and events in a timely and consistent manner.
- Serve as a positive and professional representative of Stonewall Youth in all public settings.
- Serve as a representative of the Stonewall Youth leadership team, including attending Board meetings, as requested.

Desired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (successful candidate will demonstrate, or show a willingness to learn desired knowledge, skills and abilities). Knowledge:
- Knowledge of issues facing queer youth today.
- Knowledge of issues facing the queer population (youth and adults) in general.
- Knowledge of social justice, anti-oppression, and inequality issues.
- Intersectional analysis.
Skills:
- Proficient in computer skills – including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Suites.
- Public speaking.
- Workshop creation and facilitation.
- Proficient in written communications.
- Proficient in verbal communication.
Abilities:
- Ability to speak in public situations with positive and professional energy.
- Ability to keep a budget and track program expenditures.
- Ability to work as a team leader.
- Ability to represent the Speaker’s Bureau, and the youth, before Stonewall Youth staff and Board members.
- A willingness to learn new information and develop new knowledge, skills and abilities.
